Brief Introduction

HOD Photo Though the activities of this department can be said to have commenced with the starting of the Plague Research Laboratory in 1896, a separate Department of Clinical Pathology was established in 1905. From its very inception, the department undertook studies on plague, and diagnostic and investigational studies on almost the entire range of communicable diseases such as cholera, Malta fever (Brucellosis), typhoid, malaria, diphtheria, relapsing fever, etc., which in their epidemic forms brought devastation to mankind. The department covers a wide range of laboratory functions and is concerned with diagnosis, patient care, and disease prevention. It has a well-established testing laboratory with different sections like Hematology, Serology, Microbiology, and Tissue Culture. The department has tested antibacterial, anti-mycobacterial, and antifungal samples, as well as post-fumigation Operation Theatre swabs. With it3s vision to develop into a center providing complete solutions for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, it aims to maintain a state-of-the-art recognized and accredited laboratory.
