HIGHLIGHTS OF PROGRESS ACHIEVED

 
1.
The Institute has been a Govt. of India recognized Centre for Molecular Diagnosis of Pandemic H1N1 (Swine Flu) since Aug. 2009 and has carried out testing for > 4500 samples, received from Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts
 
2.
As part of NCDC-WHO Avian Influenza Surveillance project, the 1st BSL-III facility in   Mumbai is being setup at the Institute.
 
3.
New Senior Research Fellows (Total - 10) joined the institute & have started research on various aspects of Infectious Diseases & will subsequently register for Ph.D.

Five students enrolled for short term research projects have completed their projects and eleven students are still carrying out research projects.

Research work published and presented in various National & International Journals & Conferences. A total of 16 research oral papers and 11 research poster papers were presented.

Revenue generated through Various Training Programs and Testing of products from various Commercial & Academic Institutions in different  Departments was Rs. 21,279,000/-
 
8.
Increase in income of institute from Rs.1,74,79,000/- (in 2008-09) to Rs. 21,279,000/- (in 2009-10), a 12% increase was achieved.
 
9.
8th Dr. P.V. Gharpure Memorial Oration Award was given to Prof. V. Ravi.  He delivered the oration on "Recent Advances in Diagnosis of Viral Infections of CNS." on 10.01.2009.
 
10.
9th Dr. P.V. Gharpure Memorial Oration Award was given to Dr. Deepak Gadkari.  He delivered the oration on "Evolution and Virulence of Influenza Viruses" on 16.01.2010.
 
11.
10th Major General Sir Sahib Singh Sokhey Memorial Oration Award was given to Prof. V. M. Katoch.  He delivered the oration on "Mycobacterial Research in India ; Reflections on being part of the Journal ." on 1.4.2009.
 
12.
4th Dr. Waldemar Mordecai Haffkine Memorial Oration Award was given to Dr. R. D. Lele.  He delivered the oration on "Integrative Medicine ; Need of the Day ." on 10.08.2009.
